Moser Baer India Ltd. created a sensation in India when it released the cheapest DVD titles of some of the biggest movies. Some titles cost even less than a dollar. Now it's gone very big. Moser Baer, one of India's top DVD and technology companies,  said it has entered into definitive agreements with Europe's largest system integrators Ralos Vertriebs and Colexon Energy, a leading player internationally in commercial photovoltaic plants, to supply solar modules for a cumulative value of more than $500 million. Both the companies are German-based.

Moser Baer, headquartered in New Delhi, was established in 1983. The company successfully developed cutting edge technologies to become the world's second largest manufacturer of Optical Storage media like CDs and DVDs. The company also emerged as the first to market the next-generation of storage formats like Blu-ray Discs and HD DVD.

Ravi Khanna, CEO of the Moser Baer Photovoltaic Limited, stated: “The signing of these key customer contracts is further indication of the rapid growth of our photovoltaic business and the faith of our customers in the thin film technology. Moser Baer is pursuing a differentiated strategy in this high growth business and we are poised to be a global leader in solar PV.”

Yogesh Mathur, Group Chief Financial Officer of Moser Baer, said: “This is a significant step forward in developing long term strategic relationships with top tier players in the sector, as well as securing revenues and cash flows for the business.”

Moser Baer had recently announced raising over Rs. 415 crore ($93.5 million) through a consortium of private equity investors to fund the ambitious growth of its solar photovoltaic business. In all, the wholly owned photovoltaic subsidiary has raised well over Rs. 800 crore ($193.5 million) of private equity funding.

Recently, the company has transformed itself from a single business into a multi-technology organisation, diversifying into exciting areas of Solar Energy, Home Entertainment and IT Peripherals & Consumer Electronics.

Moser Baer has a presence in over 82 countries, serviced through six marketing offices in India, the US, Europe and Japan, and has strong tie-ups with all major global technology players.

The agreements envisage supply of amorphous silicon Gen 8.5 thin film panels by its subsidiary, PV Technologies India Ltd., up to the year 2012.

The agreement terms included fixed price take or pay obligations, fully secured by bank guarantee/LCs from first class international banks.

The company is the first to offer home videos in every popular language of India and it is today India's largest Home Entertainment company. It currently offers home video titles in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and non-film categories.

Moser Baer Entertainment has acquired the rights for close to 10,000 titles in all the popular languages and has already released close to 3,000 of them in the market.
