Munna Bhai wins again: India's National Awards running late by 2 years

How slow is the government of India is reflected in the announcement of the 54th National Film Awards for 2006 today, June 10, 2008! Bizarre! The govt of India train is actually running late by two years. Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ has bagged the maximum number of four awards. Madhur Bhandarkar is the best director for ‘Traffic Signal' and 'Khosla ka Ghosla' is the best Hindi film. Best actor award went to Soumitra Chatterjee and best actress was Priya Mani.

The awards for 2007 will be announced later as the whole process has been disturbed due to the long delay in the announcement of 2005 awards, which was done last year. The delay was caused by the court orders for stay obtained by some filmmakers who had challenged the criteria for inclusion of films for consideration of awards.

‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ won the awards in the Best Screenplay, Best Lyrist, Best Supporting Actor, as well as the prestigious honour, the most popular Film award.

Madhur Bhandarkar won the prestigious award for his film ‘Traffic Signal’. Soumitra Chatterjee was adjudged best actor for his role in 'Podokkhep'.

Priya Mani the Malayalee girl brought up in Bangalore, won the Best Actress Award for Tamil film Paruthiveeran directed by Ameer. This film was also featured at the Berlin Film Festival.
