River to River. Florence Indian Film Festival- the 8th edition- will be held from December 5 to December 11, 2008, in Florence, Italy, at Odeon movie theatre, in Piazza Strozzi. Deadline for entries is September 30th, 2008.
Awara 1951 by Raj Kapoor The Festival will hold a retrospective on India's first showman Raj Kapoor (1924-1988), born in a great family of filmmakers, who lived in the golden years of Indian cinema. An actor and producer, Kapoor is known as the Indian Charlie Chaplin for his characters, and his films are pure fifties-style Bollywood films.
Last year, 'Maati Maay' 2006 (A Grave-keeper's Tale) in Marathi by Chitra Palekar, featuring Nandita Das, Atul Kulkarni and Kshitij Gavande won the top prize.
'Saving Mum and Dad' by Kartik Singh won in the shorts category and 'Sotto il cielo di Ahmedabad' by Stefano Rebechi and Francesca Lignola was the winner in the documentaries section.
2008
Submissions for the Festival are open exclusively to films from and about India: features, shorts, documentaries and animation films.
Admissions including feature films, shorts, and documentaries are open to 2007 and 2008 works.
The festival is also open to films coming from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The film chosen by the festival audience will win the River to River DigiChannel Audience Award.
The Festival will communicate the selected films by October 20, 2008.
